We have a new National Champion in college football , and this one is the first to ever win a 12 game playoff. That makes them be the first truly undisputed champ. CONGRATS TO THE OHIO ST. BUCKEYES! The Senior Bowl practices start today! Speaking of The Senior Bowl , the weigh ins were yesterday morning , and 2 of the players who have tape that I love had drastically different outcomes. Both of them have a potential lack of size that has kept them out of my first round , but now they have finally measured up. On the positive side Marshall's Mike Green measured in at 6"3" , 251. That's huge for his draft stock , because I was afraid he was more like 6"2' , 225 , although he plays big & strong for a smaller edge. I expect him to go top 15 now. On the other side of the weigh in's was Bowling Green TE Harold Fannin who came in at only 6"3" , 238 , and I think that lack of size will keep him out of the first round. Although if he runs fast enough he might just be a WR convert for some teams, but I don't see him being agile enough for that right now. I'll be avidly watching and looking for the goods all week. Then we have some other smaller ALL STAR games, the scouting combine , and then the draft itself from April 24th to the 26th. In the NFL we know the 2 participants in The Super Bowl , and it's the Eagles versus the Chiefs AGAIN. I hope its as great a game as the last time in Superbowl 57. So we also now know the draft order for the first 30 picks. That means it's full on draft season , and also liars season because we will hear tons of BS from team decision makers & agents. I am about half way done with my full team write-ups while grinding through the tape of the players who have definitely declared. It also means that I will be including trades in my mocks from now on. I still haven't done enough work on a lot of these guys, and with so many more players wisely staying in school these days I don't watch as many players as I used to during the season. We also have the full list of the players entering the draft , and right now I am going through the the 2024 of Shrine & Senior Bowl players , but now that we definitively know who's in & out we all have to start watching more tape faster. While I have watched all of these players actually play , that is not the same as breaking down the film on them. Currently I have broken down the film on one game for 297 players. Plus I have done 3 games on 161 players , but only 5 or more games on 86. Throw in the guys who are draft eligible sophomores that I don't expect to even contemplate going Pro so early, or that haven't played much yet so they aren't on my radar right now , some of the small school guys , and you get the picture. Then chime in with the fact we have only have a partial idea of what teams will need at that time because of injuries, free agency, retirements , the cap, suspensions , trades , and who knows what else could happen ? Plus the transfer portal & NIL money has drastically changed the face of college football , and more guys are wisely staying in school , although that means the lower rounds of the draft will usually have less talent these days. On the bright side more players who enter the league should be better prepared than in the past , and also have a degree if they don't stick in the NFL. . Another significant difference between this draft , and other recent ones , is that everybody currently still has their own number one pick. I was expecting at least one ( Vikings) , and maybe even 2 ( Giants) , teams to trade away a 2025 first rounder for a QB in the 2024 draft, but it didn't happen. That probably means 1 or 2 will happen in 2025 for a QB , but we are way too far out to judge that yet. Based off of 2023 tape none of the QB's look like 1rst rounders , although I am not over half way through the 2024 film of most of the big QB names. However , even though I am currently in the midst of doing that deeper dive on 2024 eligible QB's I still haven't had any QB revelations yet , and there is no way I would pay a big price to move up for one. Russell Wilson , Kirk Cousins , and either Sam Darnold or JJ McCarthy should be available. I would rather have any of them starting next year than any of the potential 2025 QB's , especially Wilson. So many players disappoint on tape, go back to school, get injuries, get in trouble , surprise in workouts & All Star games , and others come out of the woodwork. So you can see we still have a lot of work to do on these players. To me it's a weird draft so far with very few high ceiling guys that also have a high floor. Plus the deepest positions I now see as far as good potential starters on the first 2 days of the draft are RB , edge rusher , Safety , and TE. With the exception of edge rusher , which is a premium position , the other 3 positions have been undervalued most by the NFL. Although CB & DT have decent depth & strength , but corner has more legit 1rst rounders of the latter so far , as DT seems to have too many high ceiling boom or bust prospects . The picks are all mine, and so is the remaining playoff order if you want to be mad at someone. A lot of trades will probably happen, but I don't put trades in mocks until it's draft season again. Without further ado here it is. Agreeing or disagreeing is welcome, but please do it intelligently & respectfully or I just won't post it. so here it is. Enjoy.
