A really deep draft with about 47 players we give a 1rst round grade to. Any of the top 5 is worthy of the # 1 pick in our opinion.
1. Sam Bradford- QB- Oklahoma- If he's healthy he 's still the best possible franchise QB in the draft ,and should still be the top QB taken. Franchise QB's are more valuable than anything in the game and we believe he is one. May go # 1 overall ,and a team like the Browns that already have a good line ,should be salivating for him. Reads defenses better than anyone in college football and makes more reads than most spread offense QB's, but will still have an adjustment to playing under center more. Has great poise ,a good arm, accuracy, and great feet in the pocket. Almost everything you need to be a franchise QB in the NFL. Does have a 3/4 delivery but so does Phillip Rivers.Needs to pack on some muscle to be able to absorb the pounding he will receive in the NFL, but so did Tom Brady and Bradford is a lot farther along than Brady was at this point.- Comparison- Phillip Rivers- SD Chargers
-UPDATE- Gained over 20 pounds of muscle by the time the combine started. Medically cleared and had a spectacular on campus workout. Unless his agents make some outrageous demands he still goes # 1 overall and looks like a franchise QB.-steady at # 1
2. Eric Berry - SS- Tennessee- The most complete SS to come out of college football in a long time. Ball hawk who can take it to the house when he picks it. Great quickness and diagnostic skills. Strong tackler and a big hitter , but he could be more aggressive against the run.Rare athletic ability and a great closing burst when the balls in the air. Just makes plays everywhere on the field.Lowest floor in the draft and can play SS, FS, nickel corner, and maybe even start as a CB . Will be a top level player barring serious injury. NFL comparison- Ed Reed - Balt. ravens-UPDATE- The more you watch him the better he gets. We are now convinced he could play corner at a high level if he wanted too. Played all over the field in so many different situations as a senior that it's hard to find any weaknesses. Any defense looking for a playmaker should jump all over him.Is clearly better than the last 2 safeties( S. Taylor and L. Landry) drafted in the top 10 coming out of college.-steady at # 2
3. Ndamukong Suh- DT - Nebraska- Quick and strong with the ability to anchor.Manhandles everyone 1 v 1 and plays with violence. Moves well up and down the line of scrimmage ,and could play either 4-3 DT, or be a great 3-4 end. Read & reacts inline better than any DT I have seen in college, and finds the ball quickly. 2nd lowest floor in the draft behind Berry and is strong against the double team.Good hands and stacks and sheds well.A nasty tackler with a great motor. Needs pass rush moves, but he is the type of guy that will take well to NFL coaching. A selfless leader with a team first attitude, -NFL comparison- Kevin Williams- Minn. Vikings
-UPDATE- Has worked out and interviewed well in the post season. Can be a top level player in ANY scheme. Teams looking for a weakness can at best say he could improve technically as a pass rusher, but he still had more sacks than McCoy despite playing in a defense that asked him to read and react first most of the time. If he's actually turned loose -look out.-steady at # 3
4. CJ Spiller- RB- Clemson- A bit undersized but a homerun hitter. Strong in the passing game and while he's not a bruising inside runner it's not for lack of trying. Probably best used with 20 touches a game in the NFL between running, passing, and returns.Blazing speed and sick wiggle shows up on every film you watch. If he turns the corner its over - NFL comparison- Reggie Bush- NO Saints
-UPDATE - The more we see of him the more we think he is ALREADY better than Reggie Bush.A better comparison might be he's what we thought Bush would be when he came out of school. Get the ball in his hands and he will make big plays. Running, passing, returning. He's a big play just waiting to happen ,and defenses having to key on him will open up the field for the rest of an offense. Can stop and start like Barry Sanders and with the NFL being a copycat league, and the rise of Chris Jhonson he should go very high. A team just needs to use him right to capitilaize on his talents. His rise will push a lot of guys down a spot. Not becuase they did anything wrong, but becuase he's worth it- up from # 13
5. Gerald McCoy- DT- Oklahoma- Amazing first step and explosion of the ball. Great hands and plays with good leverage. Should be one of the leagues better interior pass rushers early in his career. Spends most of the game in the opposing backfield whether they are running or passing. Multiple pass rush moves and quick transitions against the run or pass. Plays with good leverage against the run ,but isn't a stout NT type, although he can split some double teams well. Motor isn't always consistent, but he has the speed to chase down backside plays when he wants to. Injury history is a red flag, but he has been known to play through them, so his toughness isn't questioned . If Tampa bay gets the top pick, a DT has a good chance of going# 1 overall. Team leader and a great citizen off the field. NFL Comparison- Tommie Harris- Chi. Bears
-Update- Still a possible # overllpick, and in almost any year would be the clear cut # 1 DT. We still like him a lot and the predraft process has done nothing to hurt our opinion of him. We just think Suh is more scheme diverse even though McCoy is just a tad more athletic.-down one spot from # 4
6. Russell Okung- OT- Okla.St. - Already has a mean streak and just needs to pack on more size and strength to be able to utilize it fully. Already an accomplished pass blocker, and excels at shutting down speed rushers. His run blocking has progressed this season and although he currently lacks the strength to be a mauler, he is a finisher. Gets down field quickly and is at his best in the run game at the 2nd level. Durable and has started since he was a true freshman.Good feet , good balance, good hands, and a great motor.Without doubt the # 1 ( and only close to current elite)OT in this deep class. Lowest floor of all the OT's, although the upside of Campbell & Davis is higher. NFL comparison- Ryan Clady- Denver Broncos
-UPDATE- Don't listen to anyone who wants to take a lesser rated OT with more upside. Okung is a sure thing. Any coach will love his fire and attitude. Needs to get used to a 3 point stance and work on his knee bend ,but there is nothing that makes me think he can't be plugged in from day 1. He doesn't let up till the whistle blows and we think he will get even better soon. The only for-sure LT in this draft. Can start from day 1, and he can play it in any scheme, unlike the rest .-down 1 spot from # 5
7. Joe Haden- CB- Florida- The best cover corner in the draft. Also physical in run support and tackles like a safety.Fluid hips, decent back pedal, and quick feet.Technique needs some work everywhere, but he just makes plays. Reads routes and coverages right away and is rarely fooled.Physical with receivers and fights for the ball. Low floor with a tough guy mentality. If he really is 5"11" he will probably go in the top 10. - NFL comparison- Nate Clements- SF 49ers
- UPDATEWasn't as fast as he looked on film at the combine, but then he rebounded well at the FLA pro day. Still the clear cut best cover corner in the draft.-steady at# 7
8. Sergio Kindle- OLB- Texas- This DE looks like a convertible NFL 3-4 OLB more than anyone in the class because his pass rush ability already stands out, and he has played it some in college. Add that he has fluid hips when he needs to drop into coverage ,and you can see the transition going well in time. Still needs technique work when dropping, but he should still see the field early . Needs to bulk up some to play in the NFL, but has the frame to add 20 -25 pounds easy and still keep his speed and quickness, and if he did bulk up he could play DE in the NFL as well. A guy who can probably play 4 positions is a valuable commodity . Past off the field incidents will leave him off some teams draft boards entirely and it could cause him to fall a lot farther than his talent warrants. If not for those incidents I think he would have been a top 10 pick-NFL comparison.- Clay Mathews- GB
-UPDATE- The only thing thats changed is he came in even bigger( 250 lbs. ) than expected. If a 3-4 team thinks he can handle the trappings if fame and stay out of trouble, they should be all over him early. If he had no off the field issues I would rank him in the top 5.Even 4-3 team playing him at weakside end or OLB should take him in the top 20. - up from # 16
9. Earl Thomas- DB- Texas- The reason I have him as just a DB is because teams are split on where to play him in the pros. Plays SS now, but is more of a ballhawk than your average SS,and has moved all over the field in the Texas defense. Isn't very large for a guy that would have to play in the box a lot but is a solid run support guy. Many teams think he is athletic and fast enough to play CB fulltime. As a draft eligible sophomore you would like him to go back to college and continue to improve, but with a stricter rookie cap looming a lot of guys are going to come out early. Leaving him at safety would probably be advisable, especially after what happened to Michael Huff and the time it took him to finally start to live up to his draft slot because of it. I think he whoever drafts him will. Could improve some as a form tackler, but he is definitely aggressive in run support. Manhandles receivers who try to block him and is an intimidator when the balls in the air. Excels in every type of coverage and goes for the ball instead of the man. If he can learn play a little more under control andstill keep his aggression he could be the next Troy Polamalu. - NFL comparison- Brandon Meriweather- NE Patriots
-UPDATE- Leave him at safety. He can still cover the slot on 3rd down like a corner ,and will light people up over the middle. Not as polished or experienced as Berry, but his instincts are a little ahead of his counterpart. May end up being even better in the long run, and that's saying a LOT.
-up from # 11
10. Derrick Morgan- DE- GA. Tech- A complete 4-3 DE. Can play the run and pass well. Stacks and sheds at the point with good pad level. Holds the edge and has multiple pass rush moves coming forward. Good motor and his football IQ keeps growing. Some guys can't handle being the man, but Morgan has seemed to thrive on it this season. If he keeps playing the way he has recently he could go top 5 .Probably not a 3-4 OLB conversion candidate, but will probably work to prove he could play there if needed, but he is so good in a 4-3 it would be a waste- NFL comparison- Justin Tuck-NY Giants
-UPDATE- His stock took a little hit when both Iowa OT's handled him pretty well, but it's not like there wasn't a lot of double teams going on. Looked fluid enough to actually make the 3-4 OL transition in drills at the combine and his pro day, but he a natural stud 4-3 end. Floor is too low not to be at least a top 15 pick, as there are very few players as well rounded as him coming out of college these days.-down 1 spot from # 9
11. Brian Bulaga- OT-IOWA- Another year in school would be his best bet, as he has not been a LT for long and doesn't have quite the experience you want as a blindside protector right now. Plus I feel with one more year in school he is a possible top 5 pick. However with so many young guys trying to come out before a stricter rookie cap is put in place , and the fact that he plays a premium position where people often overdraft players ,makes it likely he will enter the draft this year. Not as big or strong as you would like yet, but has the frame to pack on 20-30 pounds of muscle easily. Strong enough to manhandle smaller college DE's, but bigger( i.e NFL DE's) might give him trouble right now, although he does show flashes of a mean streak. More effective in line than at the 2nd level in the run game. Is a natural knee bender that plays with good leverage and his technique improved every game this year. Handles the fastest speed rushers in the pass game well, but can get overpowered at times. Looks more like a NFL RT currently, but like a guy who might grow into a NFL LT with time, if his arms are long enough. He isn't a super high upside pick , but he has a low floor. Biggest question mark is a thyroid condition that caused him to miss some time. His best bet is to go a team that doesn't need him to play LT right away. His bowl matchup against Derrick Morgan will tell us a lot more about his immediate prospects as a LT. The kind of guy that should at least be an immediate starter at RT or LG,but could end up a franchise LT with more time at the position and NFL coaching. if he realy -NFL comparison- Jordan Gross- CAR. Panthers
-UPDATE- He was stellar in his matchup against Morgan, but his arms are shorter than ideal( 33 and quarter inches , "34" is considered average for a LT) than you want from a blindside protector. Not too short like Robert Gallery (32 and a quarter) mind you, but still below average. Good pass blocker, but an even better run blocker. In a draft where he has the shortest arms among the top 6 tackles, that means something. However , his floor is so low and theoretically on a power running team he should be able to start as at least a RT right away.Made a lot of money in that bowl game. - up from # 23
12. Dez Bryant-WR -OKLA. ST. - Suspended from the team for something so petty that NFL teams probably don't mark it against him. A large ,fierce ,physical, play maker with good separation skills. Uses his big body well to shield defenders, but has occasional concentration lapses. Explosive burst after the catch he also uses to return punts and kicks. Better football speed than a stopwatch may show, as he seems to have that extra gear when he needs it. Ridiculous ability to adjust to errant passes. We're talking Chris Carter'Larry Fitzgerald like body control. Some question his possible work ethic once he gets paid, but he is far and away the best receiver prospect in this draft if a team is convinced he loves football, and that doesn't seem to be his problem. - NFL comparison- Hakeem Nicks-NYG
-UPDATE- Didn't do much to alleviate teams fears about his off the field issues in the pre-draft process. Still a top 5 talent. The question is whether he's this generations Randy Moss or Charles Rogers? Maybe he's Micheal Irvin and they are both kind of right. Either way this late he's worth the gamble. - steady # 12
13. Maurkice Pouncey- C/G- FLA- A big strong athletic pivot man that is used to the shotgun. Great base and good balance define him. Sticks with his blocks in the pass and run game with the head to make all the line calls and plays to the whistle. Word is he's coming out if he gets at least a 2nd round grade. Most years I would think he would sneak into the bottom of the 1rst round, but with so many players coming out early some lucky team should get a long term starter in the second. Long arms and has filled out a lot this year in terms of size. Comes from a winning program and is used to playing in big games against strong competition. Can also play guard if needed.Gets by on athleticism and toughness right now. Needs to be coached up as his technique is lacking in every area but leverage. Definitely better as a run blocker right now as his pass blocking techniques are questionable. With so many teams going to a 3-4, and centers facing huge NT's, a guy with Pouncey's strength and frame is highly valuable at center. -NFL comparison- Andre Gurode- DALL
-UPDATE- I Know people may be shocked that we have a guy who is primarily a center this high. However there aren't very many huge athletic physical center prospects like this. Being a good guard doesn't hurt. A team that already has a good aging center could plug him in at guard till he's ready to take over the pivot. - up from # 37
14. Trent Williams- OT- OKLA.- Good , but not great at anything. Recovers well when beaten ,and has played multiple positions along the O-line, but it will be lot harder to recover from his mistakes in the NFL. Smart and is a team leader on the field. Not your prototypical left or right tackle, but he seems to get the job done most of the time, especially in the running game. Doesn't have the elite feet to be an top LT, but his aren't bad and he is very athletic. Lacks the strength to be an elite RT but he finishes like one. Despite all that he will battle every play till the whistle blows, and there are a lot worse players starting at both positions in the NFL right now. Looks to be a solid 10 year starter in the league at either position in the NFL. Probably a good RT , but not a franchise LT right now, although he could play there in the right system. If he gets stronger and maintains his work ethic he could become a Jamall Brown Type, but it could take awhile. The position is so valuable ( and needed) though that he may be over drafted . At the very least he should be a productive starter somewhere on the line.-NFL comparison- Eric Winston-HOU Texas
-UPDATE- Still think he shouldn't be playing LT early in his career, but he can play all 5 OL positions , and that makes him very valuable. His inconsistency on film could be due to his position changes , a lack of work ethic, or just a lack of focus. Whatever it is a team needs to ride him to get the best out of him. He needs to learn the game more as his athleticism will not save him in the NFL.Since he became a teamleader late in college many teams think his personal issues are in the past.
15. Mike Iupati-G-Idaho- Has a high ceiling and low floor that will probably get him drafted higher than another guard (Asomoah)who is a more finished product right now. Huge strong guy that gets the most out of that size driving off the line at the snap, but he does tend to get a bit grabby outside. Angry mauler that O-line coaches love with a violent hand punch . Strong in-line in the run or passing games but sometimes struggles to hit his man down field, despite moving well for such a big man. When his technique is sound he is dominant, but even when its not he's pretty good. Long arms and mostly battles whistle to whistle .Looks like he could play RT at a high level as well.Once he's coached up he could be a perennial all-pro .Hasn't played against top competition regularly, but a strong showing in the senior bowl should get him into the first round. -NFL comparison- Shawn Andrews- PHIL
-UPDATE- Kicked a lot of ass at the senior bowl, and had a good combine to boot. With so many teams thinking him capable of either guard spot and RT I can't see him making t out of the top 20. With a little technique work he could be a perennial all pro inside, and I think any NFL team would be wise to leave him there for at least a few years. The kind of guy that can help move big 3-4 NG's out of the hole.- up from # 24
16. Jason Pierre-Paul-DE/OLB-S. Florida- Another high ceiling projectable athletic guy . Once his football instincts match his motor and athleticism look out.Looks like a dream of a 3-4 OLB, and reportedly has the measurable and speed you want there, but can he make the transition quickly? As a 4-3 Rush DE he could be an immediate help on passing downs, but might need a bit more time working on holding the point against bigger OT's.Can run the arc and gets off the ball quickly.Gets his long arms up to redirect passing lanes and will bat down some passes. Was a junior college transfer and only played 1 year of major college ball, but it was a great one. Hasn't been focused on football long , but his workout numbers could be Vernon Gholston like , although he has a better motor, even though its not as good as it could be.-NFL comparison- Jevon Kearse- Tennesee Titans
-UPDATE- The DE/OLB version of Bruce Campbell you say? Sort of. He just has a limited sample size of tape is all. No injury, character or horrible technique worries. The reason I beleive he is a Jevon Kearse( instead of Vernon Gholston) is he doesn't have the crappy motor or stiffness Vernon showed coming out. Still has a lot to learn, but if he studies hard, he will be money. - up from # 18
17. Dan Williams -DT -Tennesee- A stout run stuffer with low center of gravity and a thick trunk. Some teams may even see him as a 3-4 NT , which can only help his draft status, but he is better in a 4-3 at DT right now ,and he would have to be more consistent staying low to hold the point there in the NFL. Could possibly play strong side 3-4 end as well. Quick for a big man, and actually has some decent pass rush moves when he uses them, but too often just resorts to bull rushing. He comes off the ball with a will and has faced constant double teams in a tough conference. Inconsistent technique and either tires easily , or just plays with bad leverage too often for an elite talent. It may be that as a 2 down player( ex. 3-4 NT) he wouldn't tire as fast, but to be an elite DT you need to be productive on passing downs. We don't question his effort so much as his abilty to play at a high level when tired. Work ethic whispers must be monitored-NFL comparison- B J Raji- GB
-UPDATE- Since he's the only 3-4 NT looking guy who should go in the 1rst round, he will go quickly. Buffalo # 9, Miami # 11, Denver # 12 all need a guy with his skills badly. Senior bowl standout rose really fast after he showed what he can do against top competition when he stays low and goes hard.I am always wary of guys who only have 1 big year right before the draft, but Monte Kiffin has signed off on him and teams seem content with that.
18. Rolando McClain- LB- ALabama- His talent and run instincts are unquestioned, but his technique and consistency are a little cause for worry. Explosive and usually finds the ball quickly and can cover almost sideline to sideline in run support . Can deliver a big hit but not the form tackler you want. Strong blitzer and already plays in a base 3-4, so that versatility can make him more valuable. At his best when protected so a 4-3 team may be an even better situation for him. Can be overaggressive and vulnerable to cutbacks. Needs to be coached up more and a position coach who will stay on him, despite showing a high football IQ. Some will think him a top 5 talent , one or 2 will think he would be an even better weak side rush linebacker ( although why move a stud ILB) with time, and some teams probably won't touch him till the 30's. A polarizing player whose post season workouts will play a heavy part in where he is drafted. He's not the complete player Patrick Willis was coming out yet, and he's not quite as fast, but he looks like a guy who can lead a defense for a long time-NFL comparison- Karlos Dansby- AZ. Cardinals
-UPDATE- Wasn't as fast as teams hoped he'd be, but he still makes a lot of plays due to his football IQ and instincts. Still the top inside guy on our board in any scheme, and the kind of guy you want to be the leader of a defense. -down from # 14
19.Demaryius Thomas-WR- Ga. Tech.- A big strong fierce competitor who knows how to use his size in all phases of the game. Runs good routes in his limited offense, but needs to show more of the route tree in the pre-draft process. Was in a triple option offense and mostly caught short passes, although his explosion after the catch is one of his best features.Runs by or through tacklers and can go the distance.Good top speed and quick out of his breaks. If he runs a sub 4.5 forty expect him to go in the 1rst round.Has concentration lapses catching the ball, and that more than anything else will hurt him some.A physical willing blocker and is the best blocking WR in this draft class.Still a tad raw but his upside is the best of all the WR's. Could end up the 2nd WR taken with strong workouts.-NFL comparison- Terrell Owens- Buffalo Bills
-UPDATE - Still not healthy enough to work out but I can't see someone with his upside escaping the top 40 picks. Will need time to learn how to be a complete receiver but at least by his second season he could be a # 1 receiver.- up 12 spots
20. Jermaine Gresham-TE- OKLA-Big, fast, and has great ball skills. A matchup problem for any defense, and the most likely receiving TE in the draft to be a star. If not for a knee injury his senior year he would be much higher, but he missed the season. Needs work on his route running but still gets some separation. Has the speed to run away from the defense after the catch but doesn't use his size to run over as many people as he could at the end of the play. Needs work on his consistency blocking in-line , and this keeps him from being an elite player right now, but when he buckles down there he is decent .Already legit at walling off and gives effort down field. At the very least he is a willing blocker, but he needs to add strength to avoid getting backed up at the point .If he is as fast as he was before the injury he's a likely 1rst rounder- NFL comparison- Antonio Gates-SD
-UPDATE- Don't know if he's still as fast as he was, but he's fast enough to wreak havoc on a defense. As long as a TE needy team thinks his knee is sound they should grab him.
-steady at # 20
21. Brandon Graham- MICH.-DE/OLB-Led the nation in tackles for a loss and spends a lot of time in the opposing backfield. A heady player who reads and reacts right away, and who knows his responsibilities. Great motor and a low center of gravity. Combined with his excellent use of leverage and great hands, he controls his man right off the bat. Stacks and sheds well and can hold the Point. Brings a lot of pressure as a pass rusher and he will keep coming till the whistle blows regardless. If no ones open he can get hustle sacks because he won't give up on a play. Will dominate weaker opponents when rushing , but can get locked out against better blockers. Might be able to play strong side 3-4 OLB as well .An overachiever who gets the most out of what he has and could probably play either 4-3 end. Team leader with a strong work ethic who has played a lot against top competition. Lack of height could hurt him with some teams, but he is a really good football player.
NFL comparison- LaMarr Woodley- PITT
-Update- Made a lot of money since the season ended. One of the most impressive players at the senior bowl. His abilty to play in any scheme, at either 3-4 OLB spot, and maybe even either 4-3 DE spot makes him much sought after. May be the best DE/OLB prospect in this draft but since his upside isn't as high as many others he won't. Lowest floor of them all in our book though. This guy screams NE when you think about it.
-up from # 43
22. Devin McCourty- CB-Rutgers- A smooth cover corner who flips his hips quickly & changes directions as well as anyone in this draft class. Not the biggest guy but he throws his body around like a bigger man in run support. An excellent tackler and physical enough to shed receivers who try to block him. Runs well with receivers and comes out of breaks quickly, but could make more plays on the ball. Physical in bump and run but bigger receivers can push him around some.Good instincts in zone and that combined with his tackling ability could make him exceptional in a Tampa 2 scheme. With a little more refinement on his ball skills he could be a pro bowl level corner. Top flight special teamer in all areas with good return abilty thrown in. -NFL comparison- Richard Marshall - CAR.
-UPDATE- Teams love players with his makeup and he will might even go higher than this. We think he's great too, but since he isn't as scheme diverse due to his lack of makeup speed, we think this is about right. - up from # 52
23. Anthony Davis-OT -Rutgers- 2nd best upside in this class for OT's, but he could be a boom or bust guy. Ideal measurables if he stays in shape and dominant when he's on, but technique and effort need work. Plays down to his competition sometimes and could be the type of guy that needs constant monitoring and motivation. Barring some Andre Smith- like( he is not as consistently good as Smith was on film before coming out last year by the way) catastrophes he will still go in the first round based on projectability, but he could take awhile to be productive on the outside even if he is a hit. Good feet and a natural knee bender but maturity issues are a red flag. His upside is high enough to warrant a mid to late 1rst round pick, but might be a fit at RT or even guard for awhile , or even his whole career. If he is a hit he's a franchise LT, but we will make the safe bet and project him in the middle of the 2 possibilities. Buyer beware, -NFL comparison- Leonard Davis - DALL
-UPDATE- In race with Dez Bryant to see who can screw the pooch more before the draft it seems. To much talent and dominant film to slip out of the 1rst round but he will need a weight clause in his contract, and a lot of monitoring from his team. Most dominant blocker of all the top OT prospects in this years draft. Could be this years Andre Smith or this years Michael Oher. It's up to him to decide which. -down from # 19
24. Ryan Mathews- RB- Fresno ST.- A physical down hill runner that runs through contact. Hits the hole quick, almost too quick at times, as he needs to let his blockers get into position. Arm tackles have no effect and he can push the pile. Has decent speed, but isn't going to bust a lot of runs to the outside in the NFL, although he shows good speed straight ahead. When his pads are low he punishes defenders. His blocking and receiving skills improved dramatically this season, but could still use some work on both. The kind of guy who looks for contact. Can probably be productive for a power runnign team early on his career , but backs with his running style tend to flame out sooner than most. NFl comparison-Frank Gore- SF
-UPDATE- Now the consensus bets every down back. Should be the 2nd RB taken and the only possible first rounder that can handle 300 carries a season right now.
- up from # 54
25. Jared Odrick-DT- PENN ST.- Whether he ends up as a 4-3 DTs or a 3-4 end, his improvement this season was dramatic enough to make him a 1rst rounder most years. With this being such a deep draft( especially at his position) we believe its possible some team will get an excellent value in the 2nd. Leverage was his best skill coming into this season, and he did nothing to detract from that belief as a senior. Improved drastically as a pass rusher this year ,with a wider variety of moves added to his already impressive bull rush, despite lacking elite quickness off the snap. Stout against the double team and strong in-line in college, but not big enough to play the Nose in the NFL yet, but might be able to if he packed on more size. Won't be making plays all over the field due to his lack of foot speed, but has long arms and can redirect a lot of passes if he used them more. A better football player than athlete when he's on, but could need some monitoring to get the most out of his abilty. Motor was inconsistent prior to this year, and while he's improved it as as a senior , some NFL teams will worry he will get lazy once he gets a big payday.Probably best a 3-4 strongside DE right now, and a veteran team with strong leaders like Pittsburgh would probably be his best fit.-NFL comparison- Aaron Smith- PITT
-UPDATE- Another senior bowl standout. Add that to his scheme diversity and he is much more likely to be a 1rst rounder than we originally thought. - up from # 34
26. Brian Price-DT-UCLA- A stout run stuffer and penetrator with a good motor. Gets off the ball in a hurry and has a low center of gravity. Uses his hands well ,and splits some double teams ,ripping through into the backfield. Could probably play strong-side 3-4 end as well. Might even play NT if he got bigger, or in a scheme like Dallas or San Diego run. In a normal year he would probably be a top 10 pick, but the depth at his position( and the draft overall ) this year knocks him down some.Good rip and bull rush, but he needs more pass rush moves. NFL comparison- Sedrick Ellis-NO Saints
-UPDATE- Another player who has dropped more becuase others have risen. If you want an up field penetrator at DT, he is right behind McCoy for your scheme. Other schemes he doesn't fit well though , but it wouldn't surprise us if he went to the Colts at the end of the 1rst. If the Bucs took him and Suh/McCoy their would be a lot of nervous QB's playing them next year. His gas tank isn't elite though, and probably will need to be used in a rotation only till he gets in better shape. - down from # 22
27. Nate Allen - FS- S. FLA.- A smart player who always seems to be around the ball ,and a student of the game who has earned a leadership role. Rarely gets beat, but if he does he recovers quickly. Physical in coverage and run support, but could wrap up better at times, although he can be a punishing hitter. Can be a bit overaggressive at times, but makes a lot of big plays with that aggression. Could play either safety position, but he's the kind of guy you want being your last line of defense. Can cover RB's and TE's but lacks the long speed to run with burner receivers down field. Great read and recognition skills and is a ballhawk who can jump routes. Generally takes good angles and breaks on the ball with a will.-NFL comparison - Tanard Jackson- TB
-UPDATE- This former Qb has benefited from the deeper looks teams have given to Taylor Mays. The more you watch Allen and Mays on film the bigger the contrast becomes. A good athlete and great foot player like Allen ,trumps a great athlete like Mays who didn't produce the way he was expected too. He probably won't go till the top half of the second round but he is worthy of a low first round pick. Won't knock as many WR's unconscious as other guys but he won't make many mistakes either. - up from # 49
28. John Asomoah- G- Ill.- A smart player with his head on a swivel in pass pro, but he could use his hand punch better. Sinks his hips then delivers a blow in the run game.Kicks and slides well enough to maybe play RT at the next level, although I am not sure how long his arms are. A tough run blocker who stays under control and rarely makes mistakes. Gets off the ball quick and into his man in line, and excels at the 2nd level. Gets set quickly in pass pro and is hard to drive back or get past. A good guy off the field with the work ethic and motor to be a long term starter .His upside isn't as great as some, but is already more polished than many NFL lineman. Looks smart and quick enough to maybe play center. - NFL comparison- Josh Sitton-GB
-UPDATE- Lack of ideal measurables and could knock him down the boards of some power running teams, but that would be a mistake in our opinion. This guy is the guard version Bryan Bulaga and his floor is too low for him to last long. It's unlikely he's drafted this high, but in most years he would easily be the 1rst guard drafted.- up from # 33
29. Charles Brown-OT- Southern Cal- A rangy athletic LT prospect that needs to put on more muscle. Good feet and balance but lacks the strength to consistently enforce his will on stronger defenders. More of a steer and wall off technician in the run game, but he appears aggressive enough. Slides well and can beat the rusher to the edge but is relegated to just trying to push them past the pocket. Good hand placement but needs a stronger hand punch. Basically he needs more strength and size or he will get run over by some of the stronger defenders in the NFL. Comes from a big time program and played well there. Former TE with great upside that just needs more time at OT and more sand in his pants to be a starter in the pros. Might be a good fit in a zone blocking scheme or in certain ( not a power running team right now) offenses while he gets bigger.Works hard to get to the 2nd level in the run game.-NFL comparison- DeBrickshaw Ferguson- NYJ
-UPDATE- Put on some size since the season ended and looked very fluid in drills at the combine and on his pro day. With teams now questioning Bruce Campbell's readiness to start right away even more teams will be looking to him as a first rounder ,and consolation prize once the top 4 OT's are already off the board. In a zone scheme he could start from day one at LT, and he can probably pass block in any scheme at a decent NFL level right now.- up from # 38
30.T. Alualu- DE/DT- CAL- Has really shined since the season ended. Played 3-4 end at CAL but it looks to most like 4-3 DT is his best position. Showed off his strong motor and penetrating abilities at the senior bowl and has been rising up draft boards steadily. He may go much higher to team that loss out on the premium DT's in this draft. Stout against the run and gets into his man with force even though he lacks an elite 1rst step. Strong and plays with leverage. Needs to play with better balance but he very explosive and athletic for a near 300 pounder. Can still play some 3-4 end and that position versatility is another reason he could go as high as the top of the 2nd round. wasn't as productive as he should have been in college but many teams beleive it was becasue he was playing out of position.- NFL COMP-Domata Peko-CINC.-UPDATE-The closer to the draft we get the more teams are talking about how they love this guys versatility, motor, and character. The more we think about we agree that in a 4-3 he could be a very disruptive force. He's considered a "safe" player that will be at least good long term pro.
31. Patrick Robinson- CB- Fla. St. - A decent sized fast corner with no short term memory and super quick feet. Has a good burst to the ball when its in front of him, but could use some work transitioning out of his pedal. Willing in run support but not a great tackler yet, although he is aggressive and usually gets the job done. Team leader on the field but has had some problems off off it. If if he picks it he can take it to the house, and looks like he could play some receiver if given the chance. Has a burst to the ball and makeup speed. Has some return experience and should contribute on many special team right away. Depending on the pre-draft process he could end up the 2nd corner taken or the the 5th.- NFL comparison- ( on defense, not as a returner) Leodis McKelvin -BUFF
-UPDATE- His inconsistency on film has allowed other corners to possibly pass him. Still so gifted I can't see him making it out of the top 40.
32. Jerry Hughes-TEX TECH-DE/OLB- Can definitely rush the passer. Great hands and can turn the corner. Excellent first step with the ability to blow right by blockers before they are set. Wide variety of pass rush moves and at the very least he will be a good situational pass rusher early on. Needs to go to a 3-4 team or possibly Tampa 2 team to be able to start right away. Needs work holding the point against the run but he can penetrate and will chase down plays from the backside. Good motor and led the nation in sacks last season. The pre-draft process has helped him a lot, but he still has a lot learn if he transitions to a 3-4 . Since he can rush the passer at the least he could go a lot higher.-NFL Comparison-Robert Mathis-INDY
33. Taylor Mays - FS- USC- Linebacker size and cornerback speed playing safety. A huge hitter who needs some work diagnosing plays. Might be better fit at SS or WLB in a 4-3. The kind of physical freak, intimidator, and attitude the raiders love. A team moving him might retard his growth, but he could still have similar career path to that of Thomas Davis of Carolina. If he stays at FS , he is going to need to get much better at reading the play. If he went for the ball instead of the highlight hit he would get a lot more picks. - NFL comparison- Thomas Davis- CAR
-Was as big and fast as advertised at the combine , Senior bowl, and his pro day. However, he still looks a bit stiff changing directions and makes some bad reads. No matter how you slice it he will need time and a fair amount of coaching to make a big impact in the NFL. He either needs to be coached up at FS, or move to SS or WLB. We are thinking more and more that he is going to end up like a Thomas Davis instead of Sean Taylor. Thats not a bad thing ,and if he harnesses his abilty he will be a beast at OLB or SS. The less he has to diagnose the better right now. -down from # 17
34. Sean Weatherspoon-LB-Miss.- A highly athletic sideline to sideline playmaker. Read and recognition skills are not on par for a QB of the defense. Big and physical enough to play MLB , but his technique taking on blockers needs work. If he is protected and allowed to flow to the ball he could make plays all day. A good blitzer when turned loose and this highlights his main weakness. When he is sure of what he is doing he goes for it all guns blazing, but he often is a tick late starting and only his speed makes up for it. Fluid hips and a good tackler but doesn't punish ball carrier the way he could. Excellent when dropping into coverage and his biggest hits occured here. Should at least contribute as a nickle LB and special teamer as a rookie, as he excelled in both areas at Missouri. He's a good footbal player , but a better athlete right now. Would probably fit best on the weakside at first in the NFL until he gets coached up .If his read and recognition skills matched his abilty he could be a perennial all-pro in a 4-3.So athletic you almost think he could play SS in the right system. A productive team leader and long term starter in college. His upside is Ray Lewis, but doesn't have the instincts & technique right now. -NFL comparison- DJ Williams- DEN
-UPDATE- Which guy is he? The one with a great junior year or the one who seemed to take a step back as a senior? Could be seniroidas or just fear of injury, but he has looked good since the season ended. - up from # 60
35. Bruce Campbell-OT- Maryland- Amazing upside becuase of his quickness and athleticism, but still raw with inconsistent technique . Could have used another year in school more than any of the early entry OT's and needs to get a finishers mentality. Dominates the majority of the time in the passing game, but occasionally his inexperience shows in a big way. Comes from a program that is not very successful, but he stands out on film and moves like a much smaller man. One of those guys who often seems to find a way to make his block even when he makes a mistake ,and you wonder how great he could be once he got coached up. If he just bent his knees more with regularity he would probably be a top 5 pick. Agile & mobile ( though he could be more hostile) but at least he plays to the whistle .With the right coaching he could be amazing, and has the feet to play LT already. Not an overly physical run blocker yet, but quick to at least seal his man away from the play. Doesn't have has as many college starts as you would prefer and injury history is a cause for concern. Will probably wow teams at the combine as he looks and moves like a giant TE. Might need some time to be a star, but the talents definitely there and his upside is enormous. To put it as simply as possible : he's an excellent pass blocker despite shoddy technique and only a average run blocker, but protecting the QB's blindside is the most important thing a LT does. Translation- There is no way a guy with this much athletic and pass blocking ability gets out of the top 20 picks. The raiders might even take him in the top 10, and if he reaches his potential he's worth a lot more than that. -NFL comparison- Jason Peters- Phil. Eagles
-UPDATE- To paraphrase Dennis Green , "He is what we thought he was", but we might be wrong about the earlier top 20 picks prediction. We watched 2 more films of him in addition to the 3 we saw before from last season and he really needs coaching. Wowed in workouts , but still raw, and while we haven't heard anything bad about him off the field, we have heard questions about his toughness and football IQ now. Unless teams think he can't handle his business off the field he is too amazing a prospect to make it out of the 1rst round. Coach him up and he's a superstar. Upside is so great( think Walter Jones) and we think he will be able to pass block at a high NFL level as soon as said coaching up takes hold, so we think someone still jumps his upside in the 1rst round. -down from # 15
36. Golden Tate- WR - N. Dame- If Weis does leave Tate is likely to go as well, and Weis getting the axe seems to be a foregone conclusion. A talented separator with a passion for the game. Good speed and just always seems open if he gets off the line quickly. NFL DB's will give him even more trouble getting off the line, and are a lot faster, but he is the type a guy that will work at his craft. Explosive in the open field and a valuable returner as well. Great ball skills and he will battle for the catch. At the very least he's a threat in the slot as a # 3 receiver and return man to start his career. In time he looks like he could be a field stretching game breaker, but his route running needs polish. - NFL comparison- Steve Smith - Car. Panthers
-UPDATE- He hasn't done anything wrong drop down boards. It is the depth of this draft and rise of many other players that has caused him to drop some.Still should be a fringe 1rst rounder but he will probably go in the top of the 2nd. - down from # 21
37. Jahvid Best-RB- CAL- A small back who has has home-run ability on every play. Durability questions haunt him and he may be another guy who shouldn't be a 300 carry back unless he packs on more size. Hits the hole , makes one cut, and runs to daylight.Excellent receiver with return abilty. I have seen him compared to Reggie Bush , but he may not have the same speed Bush does. He also doesn't have the same patience and vision problems Bush does either .Suffered a serious concussion, but it was due to a freakish hit ,not fragility. Not strong between the tackles and he needs to pack on more muscle to be able to hold up. Could probably hold up between the tackles better than Bush , but like Bush he's a guy the defense has to game plan against. - NFL comparison- Brian Westbrook-PHI-
-UPDATE- He ran as fast as we hoped he would, but was also as small as we feared he would be. Still a dangerous playmaker and if used right he is worth a 1rst round pick, but teams no longer see him as an every down possibility. Can be as good or better than CJ Spiller but his injury history makes him far less likely to be picked as high. - down from # 35
38. Kyle Wilson- CB- Boise St. - Smooth and fluid in his backpedal and transition. Flips his hips as quick as anyone in this draft class and breaks on the ball quickly. A man to man cover corner with good speed and the cockiness that implies. Uses the sideline well as an extra defender. Locates the ball quickly in zone , but can get caught peeking into the backfield too much, and will occasionally bite on fakes trying to jump the route. Can get out-muscled by bigger receivers, but is aggressive in bump and run. Run support improved this year but still isn't aggressive enough in this are, and needs a lot of improvement as a tackler.Excellent special teamer and provides return ability as well. -NFL comparison- Mike Jenkins- DALL
-UPDATE- Another senior bowl standout, which caused more people to look at more of his tape, and see more good stuff. Maybe the second corner off the board( and a likely 1rst rounder )because he stepped up where other players faltered.
- up from # 44
39. Kareem Jackson- CB- ALA- A feisty physical corner. Good in bump and run , but he needs to learn to be less obvious with contact down field. Plays bigger than he is , but bigger WR's can rag doll him and he needs work on his hand fighting. Needs work on his backpedal but breaks on the ball well. Might fit best in Tampa 2 scheme as he strong against the run and a sure tackler. If he were bigger I think he would make a great free safety as he is a smart player and student of the game. Good but not great speed. Reads coverages well and can jump a route. Also a strong special teamer and team leader. Lacks the ceiling of the guys above him, but his floor is low enough if you use him right - NFL comparison- Lito Sheppard- Jets
40.Carlos Dunlap-DE-FLA- Potential is off the charts and is still a bit raw, but this guy can do it all when he puts it together. Has the measurables to play DE in a 4-3 0r 3-4, or be a DT if he bulks up some.Big, fast, tall, long arms, and a quick first step. You would like him to have more starts ,but he's probably coming out, and this kind of potential will have NFL teams salivating . Could be a boom or bust because he is still raw and very young.Workout warrior type that some teams( raiders?) will be all over.- NFL comparison- Julius Peppers- CAR
-UPDATE- Yes he is as athletically gifted as we suspected. However he isn't as big as he was reported to be. 277 isn't 290. Now maybe he cut down to run a faster forty time( 4.71 !) but it also means he will have to put on more size to play 3-4 end. Character, maturity , and work ethic concerns make him a second rounder instead of the high 1rst rounder his talents warrants. A team that thinks they can make him harness his potential will probably take him a lot higher, but no one with this much bust potential should go in the first round.- down from # 25
41. Donald Butler- LB-WASH-Everything he does is smooth. Well coached with good instincts.A good athlete with excellent range . Not always stout at the point of attack taking on blockers , but he slips them well and is a natural knee bender. Explodes into the hole. Reads and reacts well and is always around the ball. Even on those rare occasions when blockers get to him he has a tendency to make the tackle down field anyway. Takes great angles and is often into the backfield before the RB is ready for him .Strong against the pass. Fluid hips and reads QB's and coverage well to jump routes, but he needs to work on his hands.Good balance and rarely out of position. Strong tackler with good form and can make the big hit when given the chance but generally secures the tackle first.-NFL comparison-D'Qwell Jackson- CLEV
-UPDATE - His senior bowl has to have elevated on every teams draft boards. Was a leader all week and the more we watch him the better he gets. Our guess is someone gets a steal when they pick him in the middle of the 2nd ,becuase this draft is so deep and he plays a undervalued position on draft day.Has played well both inside and outside but played best inside. Is athletic enough to to play middle in the tampa 2. Low floor guys like this rarely last long. - up from # 57
42. Tim Tebow-QB- FLA.-Will be successful somehow in the NFL, even it's not as a QB. If he goes to the right team ,with the patience to use him to run the wildcat, play some H-Back, and basically have a Kordell Stewart-Slash-type role for awhile he may actually develop into a starting NFL QB. Right now unless you run the spread option offense he wouldn't have lot of chance to succeed as a QB in the NFL,and no ones body could take the type of hits he would receive in that offense for long. Has a long delivery, a inconsistent release, needs to learn to make more than 2 reads , and only average accuracy currently. With the NFL having smaller windows to throw in he needs a lot of coaching in a NFL offense, with a NFL QB coach. Is big strong fast athletic QB with the heart of champion. A team leader , great person, and a winner in college. Strong runner with a TE"s body but the hits he takes in the NFL will be a lot harder. His arm strength is questionable becuase of how he throws. When he winds up and sets his feet he shows a strong arm, but will his arm be as strong with a normal delivery? Despite all the negatives he's the type of guy who will work as hard as he needs to succeed somewhere. At the very least I think he will be a Chris Cooley type H-back, although a better blocker, with the abilty to run some interesting sub packages . At best he could be Donovan McNabb with time and coaching. My best description would be if DR. Moreau used the DNA of Donovan Mcnabb , with a splash of Randall Cunningham( for the delivery), and a smidgen of Kordell Stewart for the versatility, to make a baby in futuristic lab somewhere: and he turned out to be a left handed White guy?- he would be Tim Tebow. - NFL comparison- Donovan McNabbb- PHIL
-UPDATE- Played a the senior bowl and even though his inexperienced under center showed, NFL coaches came to really like him. Then had a great combine in all the athletic drills. When he finally unveiled his new throwing motion at his personal workout he was drastically improved in a short time. I can't find it in me to bet against this type of player and person. If he goes top Buffalo in the 2nd Chan Gailey is the type of coach to tailor the offense to his strengths. Learning curve takes him out of the 1rst round in our book, but in year 2 or 3 we see a starting QB.
-Up from # 50
43. Ricky Sapp- OLB/ DE- Clemson- Make no mistake, he gets a grade this high with the expectation that he will move to 3-4 OLB full time. When he got the chance to play that position some, he showed a lot of promise, but it's still a small sample size. A high level fluid athlete with the build to add 10-15 more pounds of muscle and still maintain his speed. A quick first step and good closing speed on the QB.Can chase downplays from the backside, but doesn't hold the point of attack very well yet. If he goes to a 4-3 team he will only be a situational pass rusher till he gets more sand in his pants. Looked like he wasn't all the way back from 08 knee injury last year, but was still productive. -NFL comparison- Jason Taylor- MIA
-UPDATE- Is his knee sound? That's the ONLY question with him for us. If it was we think he would be a top 10 pick to a 3-4 team. This guy may end up steal of the draft or never reach his potential because of injury. A team like NE with 2nd rounders should jump all over him. He wasn't near full health last year and he still looked pretty good. -down from # 40
44. Brandon Spikes ILB- Fla.- His elite instincts make him look faster than he is, but he will never be a sideline to sideline ILB. The area he does cover he will cover well ,and he has a knack for making big plays.Excellent in zone coverage and blitzing, but not fast enough to play man-to-man. Big enough to play ILB in a 4-3 or either spot in a 3-4. Leader of the defense and a solid tackler.Very productive at a big time program. The well publicized incident where he stuck his hand in RB's face mask doesn't seem to have hurt him to much, but his 40 time is absolutely key to being drafted in the first round.-NFL comparison- James Farrior -Pitt. Steelers.
-UPDATE- Didn't run anywhere near what he hoped. Instincts and production are still to high for him fall out of the 2nd round . I think in a 3-4 ,where he needs to cover less ground, he could be a pro bowler early in his career. In a 4-3 his tackle to tackle speed isn't nearly as valuable. Some teams will see him as 2 down player and won't be looking at him til the 3rd round at the earliest .
45. Terrence Cody-NT-Alabama- Even though he will probably only be on the field 50-60 % of the time in the NFL, "Mount" Cody is the only for sure 3-4 NT in this draft. A mammoth lane clogger, who occupies blockers vs the run and not much else. The position is so hard to fill that some 3-4 team should take him in the first 2 rounds at worst. The Chargers , Steelers and Jets all have NT's coming off injury , over 30, or both .His gas tank is subpar but when he's fresh he overpowers anybody 1 v1 ,and regularly stacks up double teams. His weight needs to be monitored ,or he could eat his way out of the league-NFL comparison- Maake Kemoeatu- CAR
-UPDATE- Looked horrible at the senior bowl weigh ins, but still held the point well against the best senior O-Lineman. Lost some weight by the combine .Fact 1- He is the only for sure 3-4 NT in this draft. Fact 2- Not only are there a bunch of 3-4 teams needing a young NT even more teams are switching to a 3-4. Fact 3- Some teams always draft for need. He will be gone in the first 40 picks at worst and he could easily sneak into the bottom of the 1rst.
46. Thaddeus Gibson- LB- Ohio ST. - The only reason he isn't much higher on this list is his lack of a high football IQ. If he goes to a 4-3 team it could take awhile for him to be productive anywhere but on special teams. Since we project him a 3-4 rush OLB, we think his athleticism and upside warrant a 2nd round pick. An elite athlete who fires off the ball quick when rushing the passer. A former 4-3 DE/OLB who has the frame to be a 3-4 rush backer while still adding 10-15 pounds. Fierce taking on blockers and is strong for his size, but could get stouter in the trunk . Can tackle with force, but still looks unsure in space. Although he will workout well is not a workout warrior type, as he seems to genuinely love the game . Instincts are good, but doesn't recognize offensive shifts and misdirection plays well. The combine should send him flying up draft boards- NFL comparison- Brian Orapko- WASH
-UPDATE- Showed off his athleticism at the combine and ran an even faster 40 at his pro day, but he is still at least a year away from being a full time starter. A 3-4 team would be wise to grab him in the 2nd and coach him up. Until then he can be a core special teamer at the least.
-up from # 55
47. Lamarr Houston- DT- Texas- A steady athletic complete player who probably has a lot more upside with more technique work , but at the least he should be a solid starter somewhere along the D-line. Scheme versatility helps him, as he looks athletic and strong enough to play either 3-4 end spot in addition to DT. Plays with good leverage and stout at the point but needs to use his hands more against the run. With a little more size he could be a 3-4 NT in time as well, as his strength against double teams is obvious on film.Has a good motor but is more of a pressure player as a pass rusher.Gets off the ball well and can penetrate some ,but doesn't make as many plays down the line as his long speed would suggest. With more coaching he could be a pro bowler in the right scheme, but he should be at least a solid versatile D-line starter. He will probably go to a 3-4 DE needy team in the second round ,and be able to move inside on pass rush downs. -NFL comparison- Luis Castill0- SD
48. Arrelious Benn - A big thick tough receiver who fights for the ball, but has concentration lapses at random times even though his hands are genuinely strong. Has a good burst , with some return ability thrown in, despite not being a burner . Is a beast after the catch can run through or away from defenders, even though he isn't gonna juke the defense much. A strong willing blocker who gives good effort in the run game. Needs work on his route running and separation skills partly becuase he spent a lot of time in the slot in college. Played on a bad team with a bad QB this year, but his sophomore film shows what he can do. If not for that we think he would have been a likely 1rst rounder.- NFL comparison- Dwayne Bowe- KC Chiefs- -UPDATE-Injuries and inefficient offense led to him coming out early. Normally a guy doesn't come after a season like last year ,but with his college QB and offense he may have actually made the right decision .Didn't run as fast as he hoped at the combine but his initial burst makes up for it. -up from # 51
49. Sean Lee- LB-Penn St.-Top level instincts make him what he is. Read and reacts better than many high level pro LB's. A better football player than athlete( although he very athletic) who lacks the fluidity of a superstar MLB, but his recognition skills make up for it, although he doesn't have sideline to sideline range. Not a consistent big hitter, but an excellent tackler. Excellent in zone coverage and reads QB's well, but isn't fast enough to stay with quicker players in man to man. Best in a 4-3 cover 2 scheme ,or maybe on the inside in a 3-4. Looks to be long term above average starter with a low floor, but his upside doesn't appear as high as the players ranked above him. -NFL comparison- Jesse Armstead-(ret)
-UPDATE Another low floor guy who teams appreciate the more they see him. Injury history will probably keep him out of the 1rst round, but he at least played well when he returned from it.

129. Levi Brown- QB- TROY- Rich Gannon-RET
130. JD Walton- C- BAYLOR-Jake Grove- MIA
131. Kam Chancellor- S- Kerry Rhodes- AZ
-up from # 53
50. Daryl Washington-LB- TCU- Played inside in college but many teams see him as an OLB in the pros. That is part of the reason he could fall this far, but he seems a steal this late. If given less responsibilities and a chance to just run to the ball at weakside OLB as a rookie he could start right away . Can make plays all over the field with his speed and at least he doesn't lack a motor . With more work on his diagnostic skills he could play inside as well. His instincts are decent but his football IQ is below average for someone playing in the middle of a defense. Add that he doesn't take on blockers well and needs to pack on size and everything points to a position change. A high level athlete who still has lot to learn about football but who is already a top flight special teamer with a huge upside. Is also athletic enough to cover the deep middle in a tampa 2,but still has a lo tot learn about playing the pass despite having fluidity to cover. .- NFL comparison- Nick Barnett- GB
51. Jimmy Clausen- QB- Notre Dame- Has played in a pro style offense under Charlie Weiss and keeps improving. A good athlete, with good feet, who makes excellent decisions. A little behind Bradford at reading defenses, but he 's still good there and has an average arm. Some teams will think he has a lower floor( because of Bradfords injury history) than Bradford and that makes him a possible top QB and # 1 overall candidate . As long as he doesn't end up under 6"2" when he's actually measured he probably goes top 10. Most ready to start in the NFL right now of any of the draft eligible QB's.- NFL comparison- Drew Brees- NO Saints
-UPDATE -Reportedly still only 80% healed ( toe surgery) on his pro day and he looked pretty good, but not up to par with Bradford. Accurate on the wings, and it could be his inaccuracy over the middle was due to his inability to role over that toe last season. In the right system ( West coast offense would be ideal) he still looks like a franchise QB.Questions about his leadership will make some teams knock him down a lot.Still not ideal height, but neither are Brees, Favre, or Romo. Really hearing a lot about teammates not liking him. Jeff George and Jay Schroeder had elite talent but there teams hated them so they didn't succeed. Have to drop him down significantly because he may not be bale to overcome this label. - down from # 8
52. Corey Wootton- DE- NWestern. - A tall 4-3 end with the frame to get big enough and be a 3-4 end if he adds a little more weight , but some think him a 3-4 OLB candidate, . I he really is 6 ft. "7" there is little chance of him being a 3-4 LB, as I have heard some people say , and he doesn't look quick enough on film anyway. Came back from a major knee injury( torn ACL) last year and that's the only reason I think he drops into the 2nd round. Also had a neck injury as a freshman, and an ankle in jury this year, but returned to form after all 3 .A team leader and a smart player who reads & reacts well, who can hold the POA well 1 v 1, although he could hold the point even better if he bulked up some more. Better at trying to shoot gaps and go around his blocker. Needs to keep his pads low with more consistency and doesn't do as well against the double team. Multiple moves rushing the passer on the outside, but nothing special in his first step and closing speed . If he does pack on some more mass and become a 3-4 end he would also be able to move inside on passing downs.Has a good motor everywhere, but doesn't look like a superstar type.I think he will be a productive player in the NFL if used right .The only question is at what position and in what scheme. -NFL comparison- Justin Smith- SF
-UPDATE- A steady low floor guy who can at the very least be a good strong side 4-3 end and with a little more size a weakside 3-4 end. More straight line speed than speed than we expected . His motor and football I~Q make him worth a late 2nd /early 3rd round pick, despite past knee injuries.- down from # 42
53. Colt McCoy-QB-TEX- Ridiculous college numbers are often discounted by NFL scouts , especially if they are derived from any version of the spread offense. The past struggles of Alex Smith and Vince Young won't help his case ,even though both have had some success lately, but college QB's coming from the shotgun usually need more time than usual to develop. So a team with a veteran QB that they still might think( that doesn't mean they really should all still be played) is playable( Seattle, Carolina, STL. , Minn. come to mind quick) that will need a QB in a year or 2 is more likely to take McCoy. McCoy is smaller than the other two , but a similar type athlete. Very accurate but only has an average arm. Did play at a big time program with experience against top notch opposition, and was a winner against that top competition. How tall he really is( listed at 6"3") will be a major factor in his draft status. If's he's 6"1" or shorter he probably won't go in the top 50 picks. If he is at least 6"2" he's a good bet to go in the top 40. If he really is 6"3" it's likely he goes in the 1rst round and he could sneak into the top 15.- NFL comparison- Jeff Garcia- Retired.
-UPDATE- Measured in at only a little over 6"1" and 216 pounds at the combine. Looked ok once he finally healed for his proday, but unless he's in a west coast offense he may take awhile to be productive. Still very accurate ,and a strong leader & athlete for the QB position, but he will need to learn the pro game and to read NFL defenses. A solid developmental prospect for a team that is already set at QB for the next year or 3. Still since he can't play in every scheme and his delivery needs tweaking he is only worth a low 2nd or high 3rd round pick to most teams currently. If he was completely healthy teams would have had a better chance to fall in love with him. As is he could be anything from a high 2nd to a low 3rd rounder.- down from # 36
54. Navarro Bowman-OLB-Penn st.- You watch him on tape and it looks like he is everywhere on the field. That's because he is. Flows to the ball smoothly. Scrapes and runs around most blocks. Not the best stack and shed guy yet, but he scrapes well and brings it to the ball carrier with a thump. Good speed and is improving in coverage with the fluidity of a safety, but his diagnostic skills are still a lot better vs the run. Some off the field questions too. Probably a 4-3 guy only, unless he gets bigger. NFL comparison- Ernie Simms- Detroit Lions
- UPDATE- Well he got bigger. If he's protected it looks like he might be able to play inside in the NFL as well now. Off the field concerns knocked him down, but with the right coaching he could be special. At least a nickle linebacker and solid special teamer , so he's worth the risk here.
-down from # 30
55. Roger Saffold-OT- IND- A highly athletic OT with the feet to play the blindside, but his arms are a little shorter than ideal . Lacks the strength to impose his will on bigger defenders just yet, but with more time in the weight room he could be do the job. In a zone scheme he might be able to contribute as a rookie, but he would be a project for other teams just yet. Usually does well against speed rushers as he gets off the ball quickly ,and consistently plays to the whistle.Excellent at the second level and athletic enough to make reach blocks. Overall he plays well when his technique is sound , but he is inconsistent with his balance, leverage, and leg drive. Needs more coaching and time in the weight room, but he has all the tools to start at least one OT spot down the road. Took over as a starter at LT halfway through his freshman year and excelled at the east west shrine game, but still doesn't have a big track record against top competition. Bottom line on him is this . He usually gets the job done, but if he gets bigger and stronger he could be an upper tier OT - NFL comparison- Joe Staley- SF
56.Damian Williams- WR-Southern Cal- Another guy expected to come out early, and in his case I don't see why not. Unless he can make him self a lot faster than he looks on tape his senior year, there isn't a lot for him to work on. He's fast but not a burner top speed wise, although he separates as good as anyone in this draft, and is the best route runner of them all. Plants his foot and explodes out of his breaks. If he runs a sub 4.6 forty he's at least a 2nd round value because he will be able to get open in the NFL, but my guess is he's easily faster than that . More a quick in the short area guy, but he has some run after the catch abilty despite the lack of blazing long speed. Might also provide some return value, at the very least as a reliable punt returner in the NFL.Good hands , a high football IQ, and a low floor. Has the look of at least an above average# 2 possession receiver, but could be a # 1 with a little more physicality and speed.-NFL comparison- Steve Smith- NYG
-UPDATE- A Safe pick for any team needing receiver help. The kind of guy who is a QB's best friend becuase he will be where is supposed to be and will probably be open. It would really behoove the rams to snag him if he's still there at the top of the 3rd and they do take Bradford # 1. They need someone who will be a steady professional for a young QB to count on .Lacks gthe ideal measurables for some team and upside of many other WR prospects, but its hard to envision him not being a good pro.-down from # 56
57. John Jerry-G/T-Ole Miss- A massive former college T who plays better inside. Is inconsistent moving his feet run or pass blocking but he has the abilty to do so. Technique is wildly inconsistent but he flashes the ability to dominate. Possibly a tackle down the road but profiles best at Guard for now. Needs a lot of coaching and will need constant monitoring with his weight. Plays to the whistle but isn't a mauler with a mean streak. Has boom or bust potential . Some team will see him and think he can be the next Jahri Evans ,and he very well could be, but not without the work ethic and coachabilty Evans has displayed since coming into the league. Its entirely up to him what he becomes. - NFL comparison-Stacy Andrews - PHIL
58. D. Pitta-TE- BYU- An athletic receiving TE with great hands and the willingness to make the tough catch over the middle. A good route runner but still needs work on driving out of his breaks even though he separates well. Runs well enough to get open but is more quick than fast. Won't run away from anyone although he is a shifty and strong runner after the catch. A willing blocker downfield but isn't going to blow anyone off the ball inline.Bets on the move and can play some H-back as well.A solid citizen who is older than most prospects -NFL comparison-Owen Daniels- HOU
59. T. Gerhart-RB- Stanford -A straight up bruiser with the ability to carry the rock all game. Runs straight ahead breaking tackles and gets good yardage after contact. Arm tackles are useless on him but he can he tripped up ,although his feet are more nimble than most power backs, and he does have a little wiggle . A one cut and go runner with good vision and patience picking the hole. An excellent blocker with the ability to play FB if needed and that makes him more valuable than similar backs in this class. A good receive and pass protector when given the chance and a player that can play every down. Lacks elite speed to run away from a defense or to the turn there corner . Belongs in a power running scheme or a one cut and go offense as a tailback , but his ability to play FB makes him more scheme diverse. Pair him with a speed back and he is very valuable to any offense. On the right team he could be a star.
NFL comparison- Mike Alstott- TB-(retired)
60. Cam Thomas-DT- NC- A big massive space eater with the abilty to play NT in a 3-4 and a crappy gas tank to match. In a 4-3 he definitely would need to remain part of a rotation and he stands up to much when tired. Wildly inconsistent in college but dominant at times. Since he has the abilty to play NT he gets a ranking this high, but only becasue of that. Flashed dominance at the senior bowl, but those flashes only raise more questions. He either doesn't give max effort every down or tires to easily. As a 2 down NT he can be very valuable and some team that loses out on Cody is likely to overdraft him. - NFL comparison- Jason Ferguson- MIA
61. Everson Griffen-DE-Southern Cal- If he really is the 280 he's listed at he could be a 3-4 weakside end, but on tape he looks fast enough to be a 3-4 OLB. If he's closer to 260 that might be where he ends up. Either way he can be a 4-3 end. Motor is inconsistent and he will probably be a workout warrior type. Those guys are usually also your boom or bust types as well, so I wouldn't take him before the 2nd round , but some team that loves these guys will probably take him in the 1rst . When he's on he's a force, but he takes plays off. Was a situational pass rusher as a sophomore and could start out there in the pros, but the sky's the limit if he has the heart and dedication to reach for it. Strong enough to stack and shed in the run game, but doesn't always play with leverage. If he's beat he tends give up too quick in the run or passing game. Has the speed to chase backside but doesn't always do it. In the end if he works out the way I think he will ,and with his upside being so high , someone will probably take him in round 1. Highly unlikely that he would slip past the raiders in round 2. His inconsistent play & motor knock him down to a mid 2nd rounder in our eyes though.- NFL comparison-Shaun Ellis-NYJ
-UPDATE- The great athlete all knew he was, but we are wary of people that don't rise to the occasion. Might be worth the risk to a team that has extra picks or doesn't need him to contribute as a rookie, but he is just to inconsistent on tape. Could go anywhere from the 1rst to 3rd round, but we wouldn't take him till here. Down from # 45
62. Vladimir DuCasse-G- UMASS- Some will think he can play LT in the NFL someday , and that may get him over drafted, but he is too slow footed to ever do so at a high level. While he can't play LT , he does have intriguing athleticism for such a big man. He could maybe play RT soon , and probably either guard spot once he learns the offense. Strong with long arms and plays to the whistle, but he could be nastier. Still raw recognizing stunts and his technique is inconsistent. Needs to get used to a 3 point stance. Immigrated to the US 7 years ago and football is still relatively new to him compared to most top prospects, who start playing in grade school. He's an unfinished product but his upside is high, and if he goes to the right team he could be a steal in the second round, but don't expect early results and if he does play early it better be at guard. -NFL comparison- Vernon Carey- MIA
-UPDATE- We admit he's growing on us.Maybe he can play RT in a power running scheme some day. He looked pretty light on his feet at the senior bowl. Still needs work but when he gets coached up and gets a tad more fit, he just might do it. Not right now though. He is like a less polished Anthony Davis at the moment, but he doesn't have the same personalty issues . A team who likes Davis may take him a little early and reap the benefits when his learning curve catches up. -down from #46
63. Linval Jospeh- DT/DE- E. CAR- To be fair to him we only saw 2 of his games this season. Scheme diversity and postseason workouts are is his key to moving up draft boards. Everyone thinks he can play 4-3 DT. Some think he can play 3-4 NT and some think he can play 3-4 DE. So his value is highest for a 3-4 team that can move him all over the place depending on the situation at hand. He has all the athletic ability and measurables you could want, but he is inconsistent on tape. Can penetrate in the passing and running games, and can hold the point easily when he plays with proper leverage, but you never know what you will get down to down. Super strong in the weight room, but only flashes that strength on tape part of the time. He reminds us of Gerard Warren becuase he has the ability to be as good as he wants to be., but doesn't always show it. Wasn't a full time player in college and will need to be coached up in every phase of the game an d improve his conditioning . If he just stayed low and played with a consistent motor alone he would have been a 1rst rounder. Could be a workout warrior and has bust potential, or he could be Eric Swann, or he could be Gerrard Warren. Our guess is some team will take him higher because of that potential , but its a crapshoot from what we have seen. His potential is tempered by a lack of good film so he only warrants a late 2nd or 3rd round pick.
64. Eric Decker- WR-MINN-A big polished receiver coming off an injury that might actually benefit him. Teams might think hes faster than his 4.54-forty with more time to heal, but he's not. He gets by on crisp route running , smarts, and being sure handed. Has a wide target radius and uses his big body well to shield defenders. A sure bet to come down with the ball in a physical or jumping situation. A high motor player willing to come back for the ball. A strong blocker and gets the most out of what he has. Doesn't have an extra gear after the catch but he can break some tackles. Definitely more of a possession/ redzone type than a gamebreaker. Also plays baseball but he has told teams football is his choice. - NFL comparison- Jordy Nelson- GB
65. Perrish Cox-CB- OKLA ST.- A tall press cover corner who's recent discipline issues probably knocked him out of the 1rst round, despite his ideal measuraables. Tall and long armed , but has inconsistent hands for the pick. Willing in run support, but his technique taking on blocks and tackling needs work.Has return value and looks to have good speed, but isn't as fluid coming out of the break as he could be . Mostly it looks like his technique in all areas needs work. That's usually a sign of bad coaching or being hard to coach.Has good instincts and reads coverage & QB's well in zone . Right now he's getting by on athletic ability and in some cases instincts ,but at the next level he will have to be coached up to be a reliable starter.Overall he is just inconsistent. Teams have to ask themselves if it can be coached into him and if he really wants it too. Was considered a burgeoning leader until his suspension for his final bowl game for missing curfew, but that is a big red flag and his timing could not have been worse. Barring anymore red flags some NFL team will probably take him in the 2nd round with the belief that he will realize his potential. He could get back in the 1rst with a great off season in this CB class, but the pre- draft process will be crucial to him repairing his image and anymore slip ups could lead to him being a 3rd rounder.-NFL comparison- Vontae Davis- MIA
-UPDATE- Didn't run anywhere near as fast as he hoped at the combine and had to move his pro day after his former team wouldn't allow him to work out with his college teammates. Improved a little at his pro day but has definitely slipped down boards. A CB needy team that plays a lot of cover 2 might overdraft him if there is a run on corners in the 2nd, , but with all the questions he only warrants a mid 3rd rounder. He can cover so there is no way he gets out of the 3rd round-down from # 47
66. Dexter McCluster- RB/WR- MISS- Some will say he is too small and too slow in a straight line. We will tell you he will make big plays if you use his versatility right. Kind of like a CJ Spiller/Jahvid Best light, and a team that likes either and misses out on them could get good value on Dexter in the 3rd round. high football IQ and can run the wildcat if needed. Is a willing smart blocker but his size limits him some.Explosive burst in the hole and out of cuts . Finds the crease and is gone. Runs tough for a little back and not afraid to take hit in the passing game. Limited experience as a returner but he profiles there well. Looked good at the senior bowl and despite being slower than he looks on tape at the combine this guy can help a team get in the end zone. -NFL comparison- Darren Sproles- SD/Warrick Dunn-TB
67. Rob Gronkowski-TE-AZ- The only reason he is this low is he missed the season with a serious injury. If Gresham and Gronkowski were both healthy it would be a toss up for who was drafted first. A big strong guy who can run over the opposition or explode into the open field after the catch. Great hands and explodes out of his break. A willing blocker and usually gets the job done, but he needs more coaching in this area, as his angles aren't always sound . Good long speed and quick in the short area. His potential is great but back injuries are a huge red flag.A team with a lot of extra picks (and a need at TE like NE) might pull the trigger in the 2nd on him ,if he checks out medically. -NFL comparison- Jason Witten- DALL
-UPDATE- About time to take chances. Some teams think his back makes him a 6th round pick. Others see that Chris Samuels played 10 years in the league, and 8 at a high level with a similar condition. Throw in a herniated disc and possible nerve damage and this 1rst round talent is only worth a late 2nd if you have extra picks( NE ?) or a 3rd rounder.- down from # 41
68. Jonathan Dwyer- RB- GA Tech- A thick strong runner with a burst. Has been productive since he was a true freshman and runs with aggression. If he runs his 40 in the low 4.4's he the best chance of a RB going in the top 10 this year. He flashed big play abilty in the running and passing games, but needs work on his route running. Average hands and needs to improve in pass protection some.Has a nose for the goal line, but has relatively few carries( which means less wear and tear on his tires) compared to most top college backs. Coming from a option offense could hurt him some and he might not contribute a lot in every type offense early as a rookie. - NFL comparison- Johnathan Stewart- CAR
-UPDATE- A LOT slower than everyone thought he would be at the combine, and that was after he reportedly curt 10-15 pounds off his playing weight from last year. Unless the field is spread out can he be as impressive? Still a power back with once cut and go ability ,but it would surprise us if anyone took a guy who needs this much coaching before the bottom of the 2nd round.
down from # 32
69. Anthony McCoy- TE- Southern Cal- A polished player almost everywhere on film, although he looked better as a junior, but that could partially be due to changing QB's. A technically sound willing blocker, who probably won't pancake a lot of guys, but will get the job done. Smooth route runner with a knack for finding holes in coverage, but lacks elite speed & separation skills. Uses his size well to shield defenders and has good hands. Average speed will keep him from being a 1rst rounder, but he runs well after the catch.Just an all around good football player, but since he lacks elite athleticism he will probably be underrated. Needs to run a good forty to get into the 2nd round.- NFL comparison- John Carlson- SEA
SEA
-UPDATE- He may never be a game breaker but he looks like will be a strong well rounded starting TE. Can get open despite having only average speed for the position. Is the kind of blocker any smart team should want.Tested positive for weed right before the draft, so he can't be that bright. Is still worth a mid to late 3rd round pick instead of a high 2nd rounder now, but who knows where he will go now.- down from # 58
70. Chris Cook- CB/S-VA-Safety size for a corner with really long arms and height to bat down and catch the ball. At the least looks like he would be a good FS if he can learn the position. Willing tackler ,but his form is sloppy and is not the guy you want as your last line of defense currently.Strength and good hands make man-to-man his best strength right now. He's fluid for a big man but not especially quick coming out of his breaks. Overall he is a better athlete than football player right now, who needs more coaching too develop into a full time starter . Injury history and academic suspension are red flags. Upside is so high someone will take him in the 2nd, but he needs more time to be effective as anything more than a situational defender and special teamer as a rookie. Has risen up draft boards because of his showing at the senior bowl and workouts ,but he's a project as of now. - NFL comparison- Sean Smith- MIA
71. Koa Misi-DE/OLB-UTAH- Another 3-4 conversion candidate, but his technique is still pretty raw in many areas.. Has a low floor but I think he's but his upside isn't as great as many of the other 3-4 conversion guys. Strong and physical everywhere on the field, but only average holding the point as a DE vs stronger OT's. Needs to make sure he secures the tackle first as he comes in a little out of control at times. Plays with force and violence and has a high motor to chase to the whistle.Good instincts and willing to take on blockers, but might hold the point better with a runnign start at OLB. A relentless pass rusher but he needs more moves to get that last shred of potential used, but at least he has rushed the passer from a 2 point stance some already. Pretty fluid and athletic but isn't the elite athlete many 3-4 OLB candidates are. May be limited to playing on the strong side as a OLB and might not be able to keep up with the faster TE's/RB's he may be tasked to cover . Mature team leader and high character player. Tries to get the most of out of what he has and possesses the personality of special teams standout. Looks like he lost weight to anticipate the change and teams like a player that is already trying to anticipate what they want. Looked good at the senior bowl and in workouts. Is quickly rising up draft boards fast and we think he is worth a 3rd round pick, but he isn't as versatile as many others ranked above him. - NFL comparison- Anthony Spencer- DALL
72.Jonathan Crompton- QB- TENN- I have to admit we didn't think much about him till we saw the Georgia game. That caused us too look more closely but we still thought he was a 4th round pick at best. He did finish decently but it was his TEX vs the nation all star game appearance that really showcased his potential. After being a big time recruit he was a failure till Lane Kiffin arrived in TENN. Our thinking now is that with good QB coaching he can develop into a good starter in 2-3 years like Aaron Rodgers and Tony Romo did. He's shifty in the pocket and can roll out well, but he isn't going to make a lot of plays running with the ball. Has a strong arm , but not strong enough to force the passes he does. A little above average in accuracy when throwing to his first read. Makes his first 2 reads ok but he needs more time working on his progression. Needs to learn all the little things that make a QB great. A strong developmental prospect in a Tony Romo sort of way, although he has better measurables . If a team has a steady QB now for the next 2-3 years he might be worth a high 3rd round pick. For a QB needy team he would be a bust out of the gate. - NFL comparison- Tony Romo- Dallas
73. Ben Tate- AUB- RB- Sometimes a player just doesn't get his due till he runs a 4.34 forty at the combine. Then people start to look back at his tape more, and a guy you thought was a 5th rounder now looks like a possible steal in the 3rd round. Part of the problem is the constant changes in the offensive philosophy while he was in college. He runs physical and angry inside with fire ala Marion barber. He can make cut and run straight ahead 50 yards once he hits top speed. He can pas block and catch the ball out of the backfield. His biggest weakness is his burst to the outside, as he doesn't change directions smoothly or have great feet. In a one cut and go or power running game he could be a 20 carry a game guy. With years in the same system and time to wprk on his efficiencies he could end up the best every down back in this draft. - NFL comparison- Ronnie Brown- MIA
74. George Selvie DE/OLB - S. FLA.- A quick first step and surprisingly strong for someone so lean. Has faced a lot of double teams in college, and his production on the stat sheet has declined 2 years running, but he still makes his presence felt.Has put on weight every year in college ,and played pretty well when they played a higher level of competition, but still needs to get bigger. A burst around the edge and a bull rush seem to be his primary pass rush moves, so he will need to be coached up some. His best options would probably be to go to a 3-4 team and learn to be a rush linebacker, but it will take time for him to adjust . Probably just a situational pass rusher and special teamer as a rookie. Has improved against the run, but still needs more sand in his pants to hold the point of attack if he stays at DE, although he battles all the way .Plays with good leverage and might be a better fit at strong side OLB in a 3-4 Plays fierce and has a top notch motor. Is a leader with a strong work ethic and the type of player who keeps improving till he hits his ceiling, but that ceiling may not be far away as some others. -NFL comparison- Kameron Wimbley- OAK
-UPDATE- A forty in the 4.9's doesn't help him for 3-4 OLB teams. Two things I think everyone is overlooking is that he has been keyed on by defenses for years and has kept putting on weight to help is draft status.Maybe if he went back to about 240 he might be better off. He probably won't go this high but anyone who loves football this much is worth it. I think he is at least a situational pass rusher and core special teams player at the NFL level.-down from # 48
75.Aurthur Jones-DT -Syracuse- A torn pectoral muscle in the pre-season, followed by a torn meniscus to end his season, has knocked him down some. Otherwise I would expect him to be a top 20 pick. A fierce run stopper who plays with good leverage ,and who plays the NT position with more strength than his size would indicate. Needs more pass rush moves but his bull rush is effective. Strong tackler with a fierce demeanor, but he is inconsistent play to play. Team leader and a good locker room guy. Has faced a lot of double teams and still remained productive. How he looks in postseason workouts will ultimately decide his drafty status. Could go anywhere between the 1rst and 3rd rounds, but we believe a player with his character will bounce back quickly. Probably won't be a NT in the NFL right away unless he packs on more muscle, but could be a good strong side 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT right away- NFL comparison- Jay Ratliff -DALL *
