2018 NFL DRAFT TOP 177

Draft day is here! So it's time to start typing it up. I am at 388 players that I have watched at least 3 games on . Some of the more likely first rounders I have already watched over 10 games, and some of the guys I thought were going to come out last year I am way past that as well. So while this is my first & final list , anyone on it has earned their place. This is a below average draft in high ceiling & high floor guys , and even worse in guys with that have both.   You don't generally know how good a draft really is until 3 years after it's over, but generally I have a better read on a class than this one . The biggest reason is injuries and/or disappointing 2017 seasons from players I saw as potentially elite coming into this year  .  After last years tape I was expecting/hoping for much better years from Sam Darnold , Josh Rosen , Josh Allen ,Jaire Alexander , Derwin James , Harold Landry , Connor Williams , Derrius Guice, Minkah Fitzpatrick , MIke Mcglinchey  and Lamar Jackson just to name a few . Add the other top prospects I was really confident were entering the draft but chose to stay in school . Just off the top of my head I had already watched significant tape on potential top 10 picks Ed Oliver - Trey Adams- Clelin FerrelI , and probable first picks Damien Harris-Christian Wilkins - Bryce Love , and Dalton Risner . I do think there is a lot of depth in the 2nd and 3rd rounds so maybe it will end up a good one, but that's a lot of significant disappointments  . Corner back and Nose tackles are the deepest positions on defense. On offense the deepest positions are QB, TE , interior O-Linemen , and running back . While there is no sure fire top 10 number one receiver prospects there is a lot of depth at that position too, and the grades on my top 7 are far closer than I have ever seen before , but all the possible first rounders have questions as well . I expect a lot of WR's and RB's to be steals on day 2. While I wouldn't be surprised if QB needy teams select as many as 6 signal callers in the first round I ONLY have a first round grade on 3 of them of them right now .  Keep in mind that some of these guys will get hurt or have injuries discovered during the medical checks that aren't released to the general public, get in trouble off the field , have previous trouble discovered , or bring some of the bad parts of their past with them, and will have impressed and/or disappointed during visits with teams.  Basically I'm saying i don't have as much private medical & character information as NFL teams should .The prospects in top 64 have former or current NFL player comparisons below their names , so you can get an idea of who it is your team might be getting. The higher they are ranked the more likely I think they reach that comparison. I'm finishig my profiles for my top 64 right now and will  post them later . profiles of their strengths and weaknesses .So while Josh Allen reminds me of Cam Newton, I have ranked him far enough away from the top to point out it's not a high probability that he reaches that comp, and if he does I think it will take longer for him to get there.  If you don't know the player they are compared to then just run a search at PRO FOOTBALL REFERENCE .  Feel free to leave a comment. Agreeing or disagreeing is welcome, but please do it intelligently and respectfully. If you can't, or resort to personal attacks, I just won't post it. It's a top 177, because 174 takes us through the 5th round.Plus 1 each for faith, family, and football. So here it is. Enjoy.

# Is for a player with with reported character or maturity concerns.

** Is for a player with reported medical concerns.

BLUE CHIP TALENTS

These are the kind of players that I expect to be perennial Pro - Bowlers , and are safe as it gets to take in the top 5.  These guys all have shown consistent growth over their college careers, have at least 2 back to back years of good tape, have strong motors, and are without significant injury or character concerns. As always franchise quarterback trumps all, but I don't have one in this group.

1.QUENTON NELSON - G - N. DAME - 6"5" , 325
NFL PLAYER COMPARISON - STEVE HUTCHINSON - retired
2.SAQUON BARKLEY - RB - PENN ST. - 6 feet , 233

COULD HAVE BEEN BLUE CHIPPERS
These players all have blue chip talent, but have either injury, off the field or football character, motor concerns , or their play declined this year. They could also have limited tape at a big school , or played at a high level at a smaller school , play a devalued position , lack at least one important trait for their position, are very raw , or some combination of any of the questions already mentioned. Whatever keeps them from being a blue chipper still doesn't keep them from being a player I would trade up into the expensive top 10 for .
