However , 6 of those teams are in the QB market right now. Plus some of those teams might want to trade up or down. Whether the trade is up for a QB , or down because of cap problems like the Broncos & Saints. Both of those teams have a lot of holes and the roster , and they need more picks with cheap salaries if they want to be able to field a competitive roster this season. I have a first round grade on both Murphy & Newton , but I think part of the reason Murphy has passed Newton on a lot of boards right now is the Jones fracture in Jer'zhan's foot. If the medicals come back good for Newton he could still go ahead of Murphy. If Newton is healthy I will have him slightly ahead of Murphy on my board because he has so many different ways to defeat blockers , and he faces a lot more double teams compared to Murphy , because Murphy had T'vondre Sweat next to him to take some of those doubles away from him. I knew Coleman had entered the transfer portal , but until I saw him balling out against LSU last night I wasn't aware that he went to FSU. I am putting him in the 1rst round of my next mock as well. Styles was another transfer portal guy , and there are so many of them these days that I admittedly don't catch them all until I see them playing on Saturday's , or I see or hear someone mentioning it. Haven't watched the Ohio ST. game yet because they were playing a overmatched Indiana. Although it's kind of cool that he transferred to Ohio ST. where his dad played , and that he will also get to play with his little brother there. Didn't know about the position switch yet either. So thanks for the heads up. I am just one guy and it's still early so I have lot of work to do ,and there are still plenty of players that will be important come draft day that I won't even know about for a few months. Heck , every year at the Senior Bowl & East/West Shrine game I find out about a few players that weren't on my radar , and I have to play catch up on their tape. Just found out that Willie Lampkin transferred to N. Carolina while I was watching him pancake a guy yesterday ,although I think he will have to move back to center to have a chance of making it in the NFL. So basically I am still adding names for my watch list to find out who to watch at the moment , as I have 9 more after the 6 games I watched this weekend. So I appreciate both your patience , and help if you see anyone else you think I should know about that isn't on my current watch list. As for Penix , his tape is just so good, and I see his progression & growth from Indiana to Washington so clearly on tape. You could be right though , but he has the second best tape of all the QB's I have watched for this draft cycle. Also if there is any NFL position , other than kicker & punter, that you play a long time at its' QB. The rules keep changing to protect them more and more. Since his film is clearly better than Drake Maye's , I only have him lower because of the injuries. Just like Laiatu Latu has the 2nd best tape of all the edge rushers I have watched this off season. However, Latu plays a position with a lot of repetitive collisions , and back & neck injuries terrify me so I will wait for his combine medicals before I rank him. Basically the position that Penix plays , and the nature of his ( admittedly numerous) injuries makes me more inclined to rank him high. I need at least 3 of any player to do a comparison. Plus that is last years tape , and I need to compare it to this years tape before I feel comfortable making a player comparison , because players grow and change over time. Sometimes you break down one game on a guy and think you have him pegged , like when I watched Donovan Edwards of Michigan yesterday and Tevin Coleman popped into my head. Or when I watched Zak Zinter and it immediately reminded me of Mike Wahle. Sometimes that first impression bears fruit with more games studied , but I would say that it doesn't about half of the time. Even on guys I had already watched 3 games of last season before they decided to stay in school like Blake Corrum , Olumuyiwa Fashanu, or Jared Verse I am not set on yet. Corrum alone reminds me of 3 different RB'S at times( Maurice Jones-Drew , Ahmad Bradshaw , and Devonta Freeman). If I haven't made my mind up yet on a guy that I have already broken down 3 games on you can begin to see how much time & study it can take , and even then I change them later sometimes if I decide I prefer someone else for the comparison. So I am sorry to disappoint you , but I probably won't have any possible definitive comparisons up until at least the 2nd half of this upcoming college season. Take care. Personally I am fine with them as long as they aren't in the top 10 , and if I have a 1rst round grade on them , especially in the second half of round one. Most teams have between 14 to 18 players with a first round grade on their board per draft that fit their particular scheme. I would rather have a player with a 1rst round grade later in the round than reach for another player with a second round grade, and since RB'S generally have most of their top value in their first contract it makes sense to me from both a salary cap & analytical perspective. Bijan Robinson just went #8 to Atlanta & Jahmyr Gibbs went 12th in the draft less than 2 weeks ago. Personally I would have been fine with Robinson at #12 because I think he is rare, but though taking Gibbs at #12 was a tad high. However fit & scheme do matter , and since both players are great in the passing game I don't just think of them as just a RB , but as a offensive chess piece. I wouldn't give a player like Austin Ekeler 20 carries a game , but 10-12 carries and 6 to 8 targets make him a very valuable weapon. Despite Michigan's now predictable old school offense I believe that Corrum can be more than just a RB in the NFL with a more innovative play caller, and he is a ACE in pass protection as well. Anyway , I guess we will just have agree to disagree on this one , and I will be trying put various mocks with different players & positions as we go along so your team won't always get a RB from me. Also, congratulations on the Giants draft. I loved their first 4 picks , especially the potential value of Hyatt in the 3rd. The Giants aren’t close to that. While Schoen and Daboll are turning the ship around, there’s still lots to be done before highly drafted back. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3426433214166700504.post-45464761661077666562023-05-07T01:09:48.802-04:002023-05-07T01:09:48.802-04:00The Giants just drafted Barkley in the first round...The Giants just drafted Barkley in the first round 5 years ago so I don't think it's a big stretch unless they resign him to a long term deal. Also Daboll really values pass protection and Corrum is a beast at it in addition to being a stud runner. Reminds me a lot of Maurice Jones Drew on tape, and since I thought he was going to be in the 2023 draft I had already done 3 of his games before he went back to school , so I think I have a pretty good read on him right now. I had a higher grade on him than Jahmyr Gibbs and he went #12 overall so I wouldn't rule it out if I were you , but you are entitled to your own opinion. Take care. I believe Trevor Lawrence is the answer in Jacksonville. Yet they still picked #1 in back to back years. Also, many teams like to build up the roster before they take a QB high, and the new Falcons regime could be one of those. Plus, Ridder could show just enough late in the year to make them delay taking a QB in 2023. It's also good to keep in mind that I don't put trades in my mock's until draft season, and I believe that in all likelihood at least the top 2 selections will be QB'S in 2023 , but like I said I don't have trades yet. Lets just say for the sake of argument that Ridder does look good enough to give them pause , or that they aren't in love with any 2023 QB. In that case they could trade the pick to a team that does love a QB for a huge haul, and speed up the rebuild. Although I do tend to agree with you now that I have broken down 3 games on 4 2023 QB's , because I now think that at least Stroud & Young are definitely going high in 2023.
